Devotional | The Father Is Not A Thief

Jesus said in John 10:10 (NKJV):

The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

Notice something important.

Jesus never blamed the Father for what the thief did.

Yet somewhere along the way, many believers were taught that sickness, tragedy, or suffering is God “teaching us a lesson.” That thinking distorts the image of God and undermines the gospel.

If sickness came from God, then Jesus healing the sick would make Him rebellious.

That’s impossible.

Jesus is the exact representation of the Father’s nature. (Hebrews 1:3)

Everything Jesus did reveals who the Father is.

God is not a thief.
God is a giver.

James 1:17 (NKJV) says, Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.

Bad theology produces bad fruit.

When people believe God causes destruction, they stop trusting Him. When they see Him as good, they run toward Him.

We are living in a time of mercy. And the world desperately needs to see a God who heals, restores, and loves — not one who wounds.

Prayer

Father, forgive me for believing lies about Your nature. Thank You for being perfectly good, faithful, and loving. Help me represent You accurately to a world that needs to know who You really are. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Reflection Questions

  1. Have I ever attributed the work of the enemy to God?

  2. How does Jesus reveal the true nature of the Father?

  3. How does seeing God rightly affect my trust in Him?

Challenge for Today

When something difficult arises today, choose to trust God’s goodness instead of questioning His character.

God is GOOD,
