it's not a lateral transaction

Devotional | It's Not A Lateral Transaction

“No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.”

MATTHEW 6:24 (NKJV)

Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine; he was the priest of God Most High. And he blessed him and said:

“Blessed be Abram of God Most High,
Possessor of heaven and earth;

And blessed be God Most High,
Who has delivered your enemies into your hand.

And he gave him a tithe of all.”

GENESIS 14:18-20 (NKJV)

It’s kind of a crazy section of Scripture, but it says that Abraham gave a tenth of the spoils to Melchizedek after defeating the coalition of armies led by the King of Elam.

Melchizedek is a type and shadow of Jesus. This is a big deal. He didn’t have a mother, he didn’t have a father — he had no genealogy. He comes out of nowhere, this King of Peace (Salem means “peace”).

This is amazing. So right now, this passage is demonstrating that giving is not a lateral transaction. Abraham is not giving to a ministry. We don’t give to ministries. You have to get this straight. This is really, really important because when you deal with money, you really, really upset people…God says you can love Him or you can love money, but you can’t love both.

Money does not make the world go ‘round. Jesus does.

Giving is worship. It’s also warfare. When you give, you’re not tipping a pastor — you’re investing in eternity. When you sow into the Kingdom, you’re breaking the grip of mammon and declaring with your life, “Jesus is Lord, not my wallet.” It’s a vertical transaction, not horizontal.

We’re in a war over the souls of men. Money has been used to fund hell. Now it’s time to turn the tables. I encourage you to use your seed to destroy hell and build the Kingdom of God wherever He directs you. You were never meant to be a slave to money. You were meant to be a servant of the Most High, using every resource to set captives free.

🟡 Challenge for Today:
Ask the Holy Spirit: “Has money had too much of my heart?” Be honest. Take a step today to give in faith — not out of obligation, but out of joyful worship. Remember: Every seed you sow in the Spirit carries Kingdom weight.

Joyfully,

Todd White
