Devotional | Building for a Generation You’ll Never See

A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children.

PROVERBS 13:22 (NKJV)

The Bible says that David was a man after God’s heart. Do you know that God’s heart is generous? So David was a man after God’s generous heart.

And guess what? David became so radical that his radical giving was beyond anything the world has ever seen. David says in 1 Chronicles 29:3 (NKJV), “Moreover, because I have set my affection on the house of my God, I have given …” This is David laying up for Solomon. Solomon is going to build the house of God because David wasn’t allowed to.

So David’s like, Okay, so what I’ve done is I have taken what is mine, and I’ve put it aside so that my son can build God’s house.

Today’s value of the offering David took up is somewhere around $6 billion.

That’s what it looks like when you give from affection — not pressure. David joyfully gave for a temple he’d never see. His ceiling became Solomon’s floor. And Solomon? He never fought a war. Why? Because his father fought them all — and sowed ahead for the future.

What if your giving today isn’t just about your obedience — it’s about breaking battles your children would have had to otherwise (and probably unnecessarily) fight? What if your sowing builds a spiritual fortress for your grandchildren? This is what it means to leave an inheritance! And it’s not just financial — it’s spiritual. And the results are supernatural. Radical obedience creates generational peace.

🟡 Challenge for Today:
Think generationally. Ask God: “What do You want me to build that I may never see completed?” Then take one act of radical generosity today — not just for now, but for the legacy of faith you’ll leave behind.

Much grace and peace to you,
